I have an appointment there next month, I will only be staying one night

Also how do I narrow it down when trying to book one online, Im traveling from California for business but need to update my passport there, here in the states it will take me 2-3 weeks which is not enough time to receive it.What are some good discount hotels near the U.S Mexico City Embassy?
I麓m a chilanga (name given to people who live in DF--%26gt; Mexico City)There is a beautiful and cheap kind of bed and breakfast place just 1 block away from the embassy.. on Rio Sena.. I don麓t know if they have a web page but I have friends who have stayed and they all love it.. it should be around $40 to 60usd per night.

The name is Casa Gonzalez.. they speak very good English (the owner麓s mother is american) and the phone number is (52+55) 5514-33002What are some good discount hotels near the U.S Mexico City Embassy?
You should try the Maria Cristina Hotel. 1 block away from the British Embassy and 3 short blocks away from the US Embassy. Here are some reviews: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g150800-d152473-Reviews-Maria_Cristina-Mexico_City_Central_Mexico_and_Gulf_Coast.html

Best Price/Amenities/Distance relation for staying close to the Embassy.
HOLA!!! I'm mexican and I live in mexico city,

the embassy of E.U in Mexico City is in the avenue 鈥減aseo de la reforma'; (stroll of the reform), and the best hotels of my city are exactly in that avenue as to min. of the embassy of E.U, the hotels are of luxury and they are not very expensive.

I live to 5 min of that hotel

suerte隆隆隆
I have been commuting to Mexico (noone in Mexico says mexico city it is just ';mexico';) for 22 years.your best bet for the money is the ';Mision Reforma Colon'; Colon is in reference to the monument to columbus. It is on the corner of Pasaeo de la Reforma or just plain reforma and Morelos. The rooms are nice with good security the direct phone number is 011 52 555 141 0442. tell them that Ulises quoted you $74 USD per night fot the master suite with the breakfast buffet (quite good).

Now, ulises just left the hotel to work in Puerta Vallarta but you should get the rate. Their english is passable and you should have no trouble.

the US Embassy is about 3 miles west straight on Reforma. Do not get caught in the line of Mexicans waiting for visa's. go to the front gate on reforma and flash your passport.

you will be escorted to the 2nd floor.they also will take you photos(for a fee pesos or dollars)

I used to renew there all the time. 4 months ago I went there and a very nasty woman tried to give me hell for letting my passport expire. I had to remind her that she works for me.

However, the new U S passports now have a chip installed but the embassy does not have that capability. you will get a passport good for one year only which you will have to deal with here before it expires . no additional fee.

The hotel bkfst. is quite good. skip lunch and dinner. lunch in mx. runs from about 1:30 PM to 5 or 6 or whatever. Dinner usually starts at about 9 or 10 pm. DO NOT call the US from your room ! IT's about $4.99 usd per minute!

buy a ';ladatel'; phone card from the woman in the street in front of the hotel. She will have a yellow jump suit. then use the public phone in the lobby. cards are 50, 100, 200 pesos.to call the US it is 001+area code+number

The doormen speak good english. ask them for OXXO store (1/2block) it is their 711.also there is Sanborn's 7 AM to 2 am for everything else 2 blocks away.if you need US news ask for the HERALD in sanborns. 7 pesos.

for budget lunch or dinner ';wings'; or VIPS are in the neighborhood. There is a KFC across reforma.

Important

get security lock key when checking in.

do not carry much cash

use the airport atm for pesos

at the airport buy a ';taxi autorizido'; ticket for the airport taxi to the hotel (about$17:00 Usd)

use a credit card or cash BUT count your change carefully.NO KIDDING!! if they do not understand the address tell them next to the Fiesta Americana (overpriced hotel for suckers)

the last time i went thru the xray at the embassy, the security guard tried to hide 20 pesos under her thumb when returning my metal; watch, coins, etc.

always count your change, always.

get your shoes shined 12 pesos and the best in the hemisphere.if you have time, see the cathederal in the Zocalo.you can use the hotel taxi as a guide or take the hop on and off double deckerr tour bus. the doormen will help you.

coming back from the embassy, only use a crusing taxi with his license displayed . you will get 2 bottles of water in your room. get more at oxxo. the whole city is sinking. my hotel sank on the west side and was leaning against the bldg next to it. it should be ok by now. hoteles mision has a web site.restaurant tips are 10% doormen, maids etc is 10 pesos. You do NOT tip taxis.

good luck.

bond street
the closest hotel is the Sheraton (is right across the street) of the embassy, but is quite expensive. I recommend to look for hotels in a section that is called ';Colonia juarez'; or ';Zona Rosa';, is very near, folkoric and cheap.

Have a nice trip!
